Following the confirmed detection of Avian Influenza H5N1 of a Giant Petrel found in Hawks Nest, Tea Gardens Vet Hospital has reviewed and strengthened biosecurity protocols.
We will no longer be accepting wild birds or pet birds into the hospital until further notice.
This precaution is being taken to help protect patients, staff, clients and the wider community while current national biosecurity recommendations are in place.
If you find a sick, injured, or dead wild bird:
• Do not touch, handle, or move the bird
• Keep children and pets well away
• Record the location and take photos/video if it is safe to do so• Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease
